george kourtis

George Kourtis was surrounded by music, visual art, and engineering from a young age. As a teenager, he gravitated towards architecture and drumming, which naturally lead him to acoustics, which he studied along with loudspeaker mechanics and audio electronics engineering in Georgia Tech’s Department of Physics, earning a B.S. in Applied Physics in 1992.

After 15 years of combined professional experience in drumming, engineering, visual design, and architecture in Los Angeles, CA, as well as academic forays into music theory and visual design, he entered the acoustic design and consulting industry in 2007. He gravitated towards projects with design challenges that required patient investigation, problem-solving, and ultimately, non-standard acoustic solutions.

In lieu of a traditional Master’s Degree, he furthered his studies by obtaining a Diploma from the UK’s Institute of Acoustics, based in England, completing it in 2013 while working full-time in acoustics and achieving full-member status of the Institute in 2014.

After 18 years in the industry at top acoustic design, engineering, and consulting firms like Wyle Laboratories, Veneklasen Associates, and Threshold Acoustics, among others, he founded liniar studio in Portland, Oregon.
